Decorating A Rose Gold Christmas Tree

After last year's amazing blush and rose gold flocked tree I wasn't sure how I was going to change things up for this Christmas. As a creature of habit I tend to rock the same Christmas tree year after year… but after last years day after Christmas sales I had a brand new rose gold Christmas tree to add to my collection.

Of course, decorating a flocked tree with rose gold ornaments and decorating a rose gold tree are two very different things. I was a little worried that my rose gold ornaments would not show up on the rose gold branches and while I am absolutely in love with the blush and rose gold color scheme I didn't exactly want to run out and buy all new ornaments for a brand new tree.

Instead I went in a different direction… I put up the same flocked tree as last year in my new master bedroom. It's a smaller tree so there were a few challenges to determining the best solution to add height to a smaller Christmas Tree. Then I put up my brand new rose gold Christmas tree in my new living room.

In order to decorate both trees without spending a fortune I split the decorations from last year between this new rose gold tree and the flocked tree in the bedroom. I placed most of my rose gold ornaments (along with the beaded flower picks, the diy rose gold garland and my hand knitted white tree skirt) on that smaller tree. The rose gold accents work perfectly in that setting.

Then I took the white, blush and darker pink ornaments to decorate the rose gold tree in the living room. When working on a tree that is a different color (not a traditional green or even flocked) you want to pick colors that will stand out against the branches. While this tree is technically a rose gold (it literally says rose gold on the box) I find it's actually more of a champagne color… so the whites, light blush and darker pinks worked perfectly.

Surprisingly copper also worked beautifully. Not a rose gold but a true copper like the the beautiful copper tree collar I found for the bottom of the tree. The copper color is dark enough to stand out from the champagne branches and accents the champagne color in a way that only brings out the rose gold… which is important since champagne can tend to lean towards rose, silver or gold depending on what color you accent it with.

Of course, I have been drooling over all the pretty tree collars since I first saw this galvanized version on my friend Michelle's red and black buffalo check Christmas tree. Of course, galvanized is not exactly my thing so I loved it from afar… until this year when tree collars hit the market with a vengeance. I have seen so many different versions when out and about shopping… and trust me, I've looked at them all.

And this is the only true copper tree collar I've found! I am absolutely in love… not only does it look beautiful but my cat can't pee on it.

Which is all I really wanted for Christmas.

After the tree collar and the ornaments were picked the only thing I bought specifically for this tree was the garland. In this case I wanted a garland or ribbon that would stand out from the rose gold color and not get lost in the sparkly tinsel that makes up each branch.

So I decided on this fluffy white pom pom garland!

I wanted smaller felt pom poms but when I saw these large fluffy pom poms I knew they would take up enough space on this tree to stand out… which is exactly what I was going for! These specific garlands aren't exactly for trees (I believe they're for a wall or fireplace) but they look great on the tree and hey… a garland is a garland! Since this is a 7.5 foot tall tree and the garlands are 6ft long I bought 4 strands. If you're going for a fuller look 6 strands would probably be better!

The finishing touch on this tree were a couple of specialty ornaments. I know I'll add a few more as the season goes on (I already have a few resin ornaments planned that I can't wait to share with you!) but in the meantime I went with a few simple birds and poinsettias.

The little birds look so sweet nestled into the branches and I love that they sit on top of the branches to contrast alllll the rose gold/ pink balls. Then I added the large blush pink poinsettias.

These are large scale flowers so they really help take up real estate when you're working on a large tree! Between the poinsettias and splitting all of the blush/copper/dark pink shatterproof balls between this tree and the little flocked tree I had more than enough ornaments to fill up the entire tree.

Now all that's left was adding a little timer so that I don't have to bend over to plug this tree in or turn it off. I actually grabbed one that works with my phone so I just have to program it on my app to turn on and off at specific times. Score!

I absolutely love how this tree turned out… it so glitzy and fun! I love sitting in the living room watching tv or working on the blog and just looking at the tree! Of course, I love doing anything in my new house so I may be just a little biased!

After all the fun of buying my little manufactured home, making a million changes, having it delivered and unpacking it's just nice to be at a point where I can actually sit down for a minute!

Of course, while I showed y'all a little walk through of the house while it was on the lot no one has seen it unpacked or decorated (we're close… but not there yet! Here's my 1 month update so you can see exactly how far we are!) so this little Christmas tree post is a bit of a sneak peek.
